wake-up call
ok. last night it was around 93 degrees at the 7pm kickoff and i hadn't played soccer in 2 weeks. well, it's more accurate to say i haven't actually exercised either, but that was only to assumed as lately my only aerobic workout is soccer. and i was in massachusetts for a week preparing for my parents 70th birthday party. which involved alcohol, cake and ice cream for me too since yes, monday was my birthday. we will get to that later. so 93 degrees is hot. and we are playing a scrimmage to prepare for a july 14th over30 tournament we entered. and we started with 9. and i was the lone forward. and our center half decided that i wasn't really an option to pass to. not good. so it's official, im at the tail end of my over 30 glory and am going to need to seek out over40 options ASAP. not that I qualify, but boy would i be a ringer. the fresh new 30s gals are fast and apparently childless b/c they still enjoy playing soccer 5 days a week. i remember those days. alright, i just wanted to be clear that i am out of shape, and i know i keep posting that fact and at some point this whole stay@home mom playing soccer thing will be a mockery of soccer. something's gotta give.
our british embassy neighors have left the country, nothing to do with me of course. they returned for a new tour of germany for the next 3 years. it was a bummer to drive past their house on the ride home from ELO and have steven say TWRACEEE TWRACEEE. while i explained i knew he couldn't understand what "fled the country" meant. it's going to be a hard summer!
I had to take a bunch of boxes out of my parents house as it gets ready for the sale. my dad surrendered my mother's jewlery box for me and KK to pick through. my sister in law said that anything of value will be stolen so it can't go with them. so we did what any heartless daughters do. we laid out the merchandise and took turns. i tried to push a few items and she tried to guilt me out of the ruby ring. which she did. doesn't matter that it fit me. it was my grandma's ring and had some story around it. there was gold from ireland, which i announced would be helpful as gold doesn't lose value and in the next great war we might need it to heat the house. far after hillary is president though.
stevenjr and i went shopping yesterday at the teeter and midway through the store, stevenjr chucked his boston redsox bucket hat off but i didn't even notice until checkout. see how focused i am? then i asked the cashier if i could leave him to run to find it? he said sure, but then i wondered if the police would have a problem with that? is that the same as leaving your kid in the car while you run into 7-11? in the frozen food section i decided to turn back. after checkout i hit the customer service desk where the lady told me that no one turned it in. then assured me that someone would and i could check back the next day. so as i was considering it, this chatty customer guy says"did you say a BOSOX hat?" yes i did. "you better find that, someone will swipe it for sure." so of course now im all stressed out as this was a JBOMB hand-me-down and i can't lose it the first day it's out in NoVa. so i start scrambling down the aisles in my cart filled with GIANT SUPERMARKET re-usable bags. a manager stopped me and helped me find the hat. HURRAY!!
mixed messages:: we were playing POKENO with JBOMB and neighborhood friend Paul(both age 6) and Paul won the first game. He was excited and he was like YAY I WON and I clapped for him and we were all smiles. when JBOMB says "Paul, it's not nice to brag." i had to call foul. so i said JBOMB, he JUST won, he is totally fine to say YAY to celebrate his victory. but then i got all nervous. what are they teaching children in kindergarden? you can't be happy to win? does anyone know about this?
