american iDULL
ok. after my parent's 70th bday bash, my sibs and i were all hanging out on the back deck watching the fire and listening to billy's carefully made 70-party-mix when jimmy challenged me to sing. THE BEST I COULD. you see my mom has a great singing voice but we still haven't figured out who inherited that gene. and apparently, it wasn't me. I started singing with the thought that maybe when i was 8 and rejected for the community theater production of ANNIE they made a tragic mistake. so I started with BLACKBIRD(beatles) and when the snickering started, I switched to MEMORIES(from CATS) and then they burst. I thought I was really hitting the high notes. ha. so there you go, you put yourself out there and they slam you like Simon. It felt refreshing, probably like how it would to be one of the crazies on the American Idol rejects. whatever horrible singing DNA my father carries, it apparently killed all the good singing ones.
None of this has stopped me from singing to stevenjr. from day 1. the most rewarding part of it all is that he NOW has attempted to sing WITH me. twinkle, twinkle is a fav, and he can end almost every verse. STAR, ARE, HIGH, SKY, STAR, ARE. but i couldn't believe it the other day when after a week with JBOMB, stevenjr REQUESTED baby beluga. now that is funny. and since I can only remember 2 verses of lyrics, thats all we get. so i hear "babeee bauga, babbeee bauga" i need to record this.
so in my quest to allow stevenjr to enjoy a nice egg-free baked good on a saturday morning, I made SCONES. Garvey's Best of Britain SCONES. how strange that she works out of Washington State and they are sold at Williams-sonoma, is my geography that screwy? scone mix: $5, legendary spreadable fruit:$12.
