Its a boy...

MAMA SAID
ok. Looks like suburbia@Large beat me to the new mom blog punch and she was a couple days behind me. Ah well, as a new mom I guess I am still a major procrastinator. ah motherhood, the bliss, the excitement, the STITCHES. EEEOCH! This post-partum business is NOTHING I expected. But I don't want to scare future moms out there, so I will not elaborate. STITCHES! Sorry I couldn't resist. Many thanks to Sharondarella for keeping the Phlegm Blogger alive while I have been recuperating. I really did have many intentions of blogging post delivery but medicine intervened and peekay was down for the count. So let's make this a one month birthday party for baby SteveO!!

DISCLAIMER: This following detailed scenario will get graphic for those with or without a hoo-hoo(vagina to you medical folks)

Labor & Delivery timeline May 11, 2005:
12:15am arrive at hospital (yes, I even missed my midnight deadline- oops!)
12:30am in my Labor bed, waiting for the witchdoctor to give me the certadill (which he administers with his gloved hand and places on my cervix. DOUBLE EOOOCH. The definition of UNCOMFORTABLE has been changed. Which is how Dr Yan chose to prepare me for this medical intervention to get my cervix "ripened" (to speed the process of getting the cervix to 100%)
3:30am contractions arrive on the scene(mild ones but I still said a lot of "OH BOY!"
8:00am Dr POrter arrives and says things are progressing naturally and we will not start pitocin
9:00am water breaks!
9:15 painful contractions kick in! send in the medicine man!
10:00am mr epidural arrives! trumpets sound in the room.
10:30am What? I'm having more contractions? Who KNEW? Im feeling like Christopher Columbus when he saw land!
12:30pm I am officially 5 cm - halfway there! but contractions have slowed down, so Dr P puts a slow drip of pitocin in my IV.2:00pm I am 10 cm and ready to push this baby out
2:30pm the nurses and dr P walk steve and i through this labor pushing segment
5:00pm the baby is just not moving as fast as Dr P hopes and after 2.5 hours of pushing she is not sure when I will burn out. Will it be DOOR #1 - Go Directly to C-SECTION or DOOR #2 - FORCEPS!!!(or salad tongs as steve liked to call them)
5:01pm Steveo asks to see the Forceps,( I should've looked away!)
5:05pm I decide Forceps, for 2 pushes and if it doesn't work then we are to C-section
5:15pm they crank up the epidural meds
5:30pm I can't feel my legs(they are still swollen and i refer to them as porkchops)
5:45pm they call in a team of pediatricians to assist if there are any problems with forceps delivery.
5:55pm the room fills, I think we had about 12 people in the room
6:00pm the pushing starts!!!! Of course, I can't FEEL anything but I pretend anyway
6:06pm OUT POPS BABY!!!

I was pretty doped up so I was definitely out of it, but i got the boy out! wahoo. Very exciting stuff! We stayed in the hospital until Friday afternoon. It was such a nice stay there that we literally wanted to stay a week. In fact they should offer it to new parents to make $ and charge like a hotel. birth day: 5.11.2005, baby boy weight in lbs: 8, 1oz, hours of pushing: 2.75, feeling when baby was put on my chest: priceless.
