The strange parallels of soccer & parenting ...

Okay, Peekay swears that she is preparing a blog for all of you patient readers. Meanwhile, please bear with me as I add yet another guest blog. :)

Tonight I got to see the incredible power of teamwork in action; although I don't follow soccer (BLASPHEMY! Heee-heee) it was very obvious to me that all of Peekay's years playing soccer were preparing her to be a mother.

She and her hubby came to the parentals house for dinner because the happy baby household were the victims of an unfortunate power outage, so they were forced to take dinnertime refuge at a house with food and the ability to cook it. That meant road trip to the home of grandma & grandpa.

Peekay and SteveO came in with baby bag, baby carrier and all of the accoutrements (including the baby) that go along with the new parenting role. They deposited the happily sleeping baby with grandma #1 (peekay's mom) while grandma #2 (steveO's mom) put the finishing touches on dinner. As soon as the call went out "dinner's ready!" the baby decided he wanted to eat, too. So, Peekay accepted the pass from SteveO and took possession of the baby, moving to right field so she could feed the hungry fellow.

SteveO shoveled in some food and then went to relieve Peekay, who had called a feeding time-out because she needed to rest before resuming play. She dashed in, sat down and proceeded to inhale some food, just as baby decided her relief was over. Back into the fray went Peekay, back to the bench came SteveO. 10 minutes more of hard play and Peekay had that baby sleeping like ... well, like a baby.

And so it went, all night long. Back and forth went that baby, smoothly passed from mother to father, depending on the moment:

"SteveO, we've got a dirty diaper here."
"I'm on it!"

"I think someone's hungry ..."
"That's all me, pass him over!"

I was most impressed. All of that book learning is paying off! And what is the end result? A happy, contented baby who is sure to be a soccer player before long. :)

Goodnight all!
