Rainy Days and Fortune Cookies

Today is a rainy, gloomy day. I spent the morning in a rainy Saturday Movie-fest, one of my most favorite things to do. Luckily, the movie network must have foreseen the rainy day, because they had a great lineup of movies for me to choose from: I started the morning with "Bend it Like Beckham" (since I don't play soccer the least I could is watch a movie about those who do, or so I thought, since I'm contributing to the Phlegm blog.)

Then I switched between two movies at a time for the rest of my viewing: "The Man from Snowy River" "Little Giants" "Necessary Roughness" "Something's Gotta Give" "The Goonies" "In and Out" ... all in all, a very satisfactory morning.

I took my Dad out for Chinese tonight because Mother-dearest is out of town visiting relatives, leaving us to fend for ourselves. After eating our dinner, the much anticipated rainbow sherbet and fortune cookie dessert arrived. To our great disappointment, the sherbet was actually bland vanilla ice cream. Such a letdown.

Since we were denied our sherbet, we cracked open the fortune cookies.

Dad's read "Joys can hide in the shadow of sorrow."

Hmmm. Very ambiguous.

Mine read "You will inherit a great deal of money."

Now, I really like my fortune, unless it has something to do with Dad's fortune. I do not want to inherit money that has any tinge of sorrow, thank you! So, powers that be, if you are listening, no sorrow, please. I would rather be poor and working for a living, than rich and sorrowful. Thank you very much!
