So far I haven't done much posting on PeeKay's blog. I forgot that I agreed to take on this responsibility over Labor Day weekend. Labor Day has always been a special holiday for me, one incorporating a philosophy I have arrived at through my years of experience with holidays and regular days, rainy days and Mondays:
I have always endorsed my support Labor Day with a strict policy of anti-labor. This year I celebrated by eating leftovers from the fridge that I could eat cold, or heat using the microwave (very minimal labor involved.) I took a shower, but didn't dress, put on makeup or dry my hair, as each of these would require some labor on my part. I sauntered leisurely down the stairs and flopped on the couch, where I proceeded to flip through the channels with my remote, because changing them by hand is very labor-intensive and would be counter-productive to reaching my goal of doing nothing laborious. I left the door open all day long so the dog could run in and out as he pleased, thereby decreasing any labor on my part involving opening/closing the doors. I left the lid off his food container so he could help himself when he was hungry, again decreasing any labor on my part.
Later in the day as I was migrating from the couch in the den to the couch in the living room, I looked out the window, noticing that many of the neighbors were outside --- some were pushing strollers, others were cutting the grass and weeding, and still others were operating their grills ... all of these very taxing tasks ... obviously they didn't understand the true meaning of Labor Day, very well, but they were trying, by keeping any laboring to a minimum. I felt that I achieved my goal of anti-laboring very successfully, and it seemed that others had embraced this philosophy of mine too, although to a lesser degree.
When I arrived at work today my spirits plummeted as I heard of someone who obviously misunderstood the meaning of Labor Day entirely ... all 9-lbs, 5 oz., 19" worth. The poor woman went into L-A-B-O-R on LABOR Day. I really wish she had asked someone, preferably ME, before doing that. She ruined my efforts of anti-laboring with her grandstanding and her effort to put everyone else's Labor Day celebration in the shade. Honestly, that's just shameless.
And all of my efforts have counted for naught .... Now I'll have to wait for Thanksgiving, the next holiday where I can appropriately apply my philosphy for Giving Thanks. Meanwhile, I think I will have to drown my sorrows in a cinnamon roll from Cinnabon tonight, and perhaps, in the tradition of PeeKay, a chicken burrito. :)
